Chaotic Pendulum

This consists of two sets of complex pendulum. Each pendulum has three small pendulums attached to it and the movement of each one influence the movement of the others in the system. The user will try to make the two sets of pendulum move the same way by turning and releasing the handles as exactly the same way as he/she can. This will prove to be almost impossible as even very small differences in the way there were started have major influence on the way they move. This exhibit thus demonstrates the extreme sensitivity to starting conditions that is characteristic of chaotic systems.

Chaotic Pendulum is available in the "I AM a Scientist" travelling exhibit package.
