This exhibit gives children a rare opportunity to mix
colored lights instead of pigments. Three light sources
of primary colors - green, red and blue, shine down
on a white table top. By placing the hands just above
the table top, the user cast a shadow of different colors
depending on which colored light is blocked. The combination
of red, green and blue light produces white light. If
the hand blocks one of the colors, the resulting shadow
cast is the complement of that color. For example, if
the red light is blocked, the shadow cast will be cyan
colored. This exhibit demonstrates the principles behind
how color televisions and monitors work.
Colored
Shadow is available in the "I AM a Scientist"
travelling exhibit package.
