Hand battery is a simple but intriguing exhibit that
shows that the human body is not only a conductor but
could also produce electricity. The exhibit consists
of two metal plates, one made of copper, the other of
aluminum. Both are connected to an electric gauge. When
the user firmly presses on the metal plates with each
hand, the electricity is produced as shown in the gauge.
Chemical reaction takes place between the metal plates
and the hand that cause electric charges to accumulate
and flow through the wires. Users take turns and compare
which one can produce more electricity.
Hand
Battery
is available in the "I AM a Scientist" travelling
exhibit package.
