Magnetic Fields

The Magnetic Field exhibit has a fluid-filled chamber. Suspended in this fluid are metal fillings. When a bar magnet is placed on top, these fillings cluster and traces the shape of the magnetic fields at both ends of the bar magnet. Through this, one is able to observe the size and shape of the previously invisible magnetic fields of a magnet. The user could also place two bar magnets end to end and compare the shape of the magnetic fields when two like poles are near each other as opposed to unlike poles.

Magnetic Fields is available in the "I AM a Scientist" travelling exhibit package.
