This
exhibit consists of two demonstration setup. On the left
setup, a magnetized globe is placed between two magnets
on top and below it. The user positions the globe at just
the right spot where all the forces of gravity and magnetism
balance each other out. The result is a floating globe.
The setup on the right has magnets stacked on top each
and arranged such that like poles are facing each other.
Since like poles repel each other, the magnets push each
other away and cause them to float. Both of this setup
allows the user to feel the force of magnetic repulsion
and demonstrates that it can be powerful enough to cause
objects to levitate.
Magnetic
Levitation is available in the "I AM a Scientist"
travelling exhibit package.
