Pulleys consists of one large pulley and several smaller
pulleys around it. The exhibit user uses rubber bands
to connect the large pulley to one or more pulleys and
notice the effort needed to turn them. He/she will also
observe that differences in diameters will translate
into differences in the speed of rotation. Pulley teaches
the importance of simple machines like the wheel, the
transfer of mechanical energy, as well as other concepts
of mechanics like inertia, conservation of angular momentum
and friction.
Pulleys
is available in the "I AM a Scientist" travelling
exhibit package.
